MIG Welding

MIG welding-Indiana Contract Manufacturing Professionals

In electronics, repair, and creation of metallic products, outputs, and components, the process and the procedure of welding is one, if not the most relevant and the most needed of all. Without it, your products would not be combined and fused, making it useless for its own functionality.

Welding has many different types and kinds but if you decide that we, at Indiana Contract Manufacturing Professionals are the company that you will work with, we will help you with any type of welding that you need – but we have master welders who are adept and experts in the best, the most effective, and the simplest type of welding – MIG welding.

How Welding Happens

If you’re unfortunately part of the demographic who has little-to-no knowledge about welding, don’t worry, we got you. We’ll be diligent and generous to impart the knowledge and the awareness we have in welding and we can help you understand it even better.

You might know to weld to be the activity done by repairmen especially in cars and in automotive where sparks are spewed and two pieces of metal and steel are connected and combined. That’s actually how welding is done but what processes are involved?

Since the creation of the different types of welding, the procedures changed, evolved, and they were modified. But the simplest and the most basic way on how welding is done is by using a piece of welding equipment having a consumable electrode wire that would produce the heat needed for the welding.

The heat is then transferred to the workpiece or the material being welded, melting it, then cooling it in order for the two separate pieces to combine. This type of welding is known to be gas metal arc welding (GMAW) or more commonly known as MIG welding.

MIG Welding: Overview

MIG welding or metal inert gas welding is the easiest and the most basic type of welding and it involves the use of a spool or a welding machine, a welding gun or device, and a wire (usually copper) electrode that is consumed when used.

The welding works simply in the following steps:

  1. The metal or steel parts that are to be combined are prepared for the welding process;
  2. With the entire welding equipment ready, the spool or the welding machine is prepared, the parts or components to be welded are placed in the position in which it’s the most efficient to be worked;
  3. From there, the device or the welding gun is positioned and the welding machine is turned on;
  4. MIG welding uses a continuous solid electrode and heats the metal parts and components;
  5. When the parts melt, it cools and that’s when the combining or the fusing happens.

Why MIG Welding is the Best?

So why is MIG welding considered as the best type of welding procedure? Other than this type of welding, there are other methods but in this procedure, almost all people are able to do it – even a person who only learned it for an hour will be able to do it.

Aside from that, what other advantages does MIG welding have over the different types of welding?

MIG welding is just one of the few types of welding procedures that do not produce slag or waste. Filler metal is produced to help out in block the points of weld but it’s not considered as waste. Having no waste, operators, and welders would have less time to think about maintaining or cleaning it.

In addition to that benefit, MIG welds can also create and produce a better and higher quality of welds than its other counterparts in a faster and a speedier way. This is because of the continuous spew of electric currents.

Moreover, the application of it can be semi or fully-automatic which can accurately regulate the quality of the weld that you need and want for your products and your outputs.

If you want a safer and more secure type of weld, MIG welding is what you want to pursue. This is all because of a gas shield that’s spewed when the welding gun is triggered. This shield prohibits the combination and the chemical reaction that can take place because of the presence of many different chemicals and the oxygen in the air.

With the gas shield, no type of waste is produced and the welding gun or device would have little-to-no dirt accumulation.
